Stephanie L. Black – Penobscot Bay Press

BROOKSVILLE, MAINE – Stephanie L. Black passed away on April 27, 2024, just two days after her 63rd birthday, with her family by her side. She fought a courageous battle against cancer. She graduated from George Stevens Academy. She worked as a clamshell man, store clerk and bookkeeper before settling into a career with the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years. She held many positions, from clerking to delivering packages and mail, to ending her career as postmaster of the Deer Isle Post Office.

Stephanie enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She gave away countless hats, mittens, sweaters, socks and scarves. She loved making people smile with her handmade gifts. After her death, we found many thank you cards from people who appreciated her kindness. Stephanie was always ready to help everyone. Many of her work friends came to her bedside in recent weeks.

Stephanie loved her life. She loved work, her cats and her hobbies. She got a concealed carry permit and enjoyed target practice. She tried pottery, jewelry and painting. She got her motorcycle license and bought a Harley. Always looking forward to a new challenge.

Stephanie is survived by her sisters, Heidi and husband Warren, Stacey, Heather and husband Randy. One cousin Matthew; nieces Samantha, Sarah and Mariah; great-nephew Carson and great-nephews Juliette, Rose and Coraline. Stephanie was predeceased by her mother and father, Pat and Ernest Black, and grandparents, Helen and Carl Closson.

Arrangements are under the care of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home and Cremation Services Bucksport, mitchelltweedieyoung.com.
