Cargill is recalling beef sold at Walmart due to E. Coli

If you’re a ground beef connoisseur in Texas and buy your meat products at Walmart, it’s time to check your refrigerator and freezers.

Cargill Meat Solutions has issued a recall for more than 16,423 pounds of raw ground beef products. The meat may be contaminated with E.Coli.

What is E.Coli?

According to the CDC, Escherichia coli are bacteria found in the environment, food and the intestines of people and animals. E. coli is a large and diverse group of bacteria. While most E. coli strains are harmless, other strains can make you sick. Some types of E. coli can cause diarrhea, while others cause urinary tract infections, respiratory diseases, pneumonia and other illnesses.

The ground beef products were shipped to Walmart stores nationwide. The potentially affected products were manufactured between April 26 and 27, 2004.

The following products are included in the recall:

  • £2.25. plastic wrapped containers containing “93% LEAN 7% FAT ALL NATURAL LEAN GROUND BEEF” with lot code 117 and location number “EST. 86P” printed on the back of the label.
  • £1.33. plastic-wrapped trays containing four “PRIME RIB BEEF STEAK BURGERS PATTIES” with lot code 118 and location number “EST. 86P” printed on the back of the label.
  • £2.25. plastic wrapped trays containing “85% LEAN 15% FAT ALL NATURAL ANGUS PREMIUM GROUND BEEF” with lot code 117 and location number “EST. 86P” printed on the back of the label.
  • £2.25. plastic wrapped trays containing “80% LEAN 20% FAT ALL NATURAL GROUND BEEF CHUCK” with lot code 118 and location number “EST. 86P” printed on the back of the label.
  • 0.33 pounds. plastic wrapped containers containing four “80% LEAN 20% FAT ALL NATURAL GROUND BEEF CHUCK PATTIES” with lot code 118 and location number “EST. 86P” printed on the back of the label.
  • £1.33. plastic wrapped containers containing four “90% LEAN 10% FAT ALL NATURAL GROUND BEEF SIRLOIN PATTIES” with lot code 118 and location number “EST. 86P” printed on the back of the label.

These products all have the USDA inspection mark on the front of the label, the establishment number is EST. The back label has 86P printed on it.
