Marquette brings leadership change to the men’s lacrosse program

Bill Scholl, vice president and athletic director at Marquette University, announced a leadership change at the head of the men’s lacrosse program Thursday afternoon.

Andrew Stimmel will not return for a sixth season as head coach and a national search for a replacement will begin immediately.

“I would like to thank Andrew for his dedication to the student-athletes of the men’s lacrosse team and Marquette University during his time with the program,” Scholl said.

Stimmel recently completed his fifth season as head coach with a 21-41 record and a 6-19 ledger in BIG EAST Conference play. He also served as an assistant coach at MU during the 2016 season.

“This is a great place,” Stimmel said. “I had two of my children here and my family grew up here. I will always be grateful for the opportunity I was given, and Marquette will always have a special place in my heart.

“It has been a dream of mine to reach this level since I was a young child and I am grateful to have had that opportunity. At the same time, it is time for me to step down and spend some more time with my family. I will forever enjoy my time here and look forward to continuing to work for this team in the future. Whoever takes over will find a hard-working group of kids who love and compete with each other. I look forward to a bright future ahead.”
