Schools in Norwalk will close Friday due to traffic following I-95 crash

The cancellation is “due to ongoing traffic issues and delays,” according to a Facebook post from the district Thursday evening.

Despite the school closures, athletics competitions, plays and proms will still take place. Conversely, all practices over the weekend will be canceled, the statement said.

The accident damaged a highway bridge so severely that it must be demolished, the governor said at an evening news conference.

Governor Ned Lamont said demolition of the Fairfield Avenue bridge will begin at 3 a.m. Friday and last about a day. Rebuilding the bridge will take much longer — about a year, said Department of Transportation Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto.
