Horse racing tips: nap of the day

Ben Linfoot is back in the top spot as he reveals his best bets at the tracks on another busy Friday.

Mr. IRRELEVANT – 8.20 Doncaster

Brandon Wilkie is an improving rider who is well worth his £5 claim at the moment and he is a great booking for the penalized Mr. IRRELEVANT in the happy last in Doncaster.

Grant Tuer’s horse has made clear progress since switching to handicaps this spring and got off to a pretty impressive start when scoring in this six-furlong ride on soft ground at Ripon on Saturday.

The win never really seemed in doubt that day and taking him out again quickly, effectively putting him off 72 under 6lb extra, means he’s still officially a pound ahead of the judge – and that’s before taking into account is taken into account the jockey’s claim (was ridden by a 3lb allowance apprentice last time).

RATHGAR – 2.05 Goodwood (NAP)

Jack Channon’s string goes very well and RATHGAR looks different with a chance to win in the William Hill Extra Place Races Handicap at Goodwood on Friday.

The son of Ulysses was castrated in the winter and returned to Chelmsford last time with a promising return, as if he had come on the run.

His only career success came at Goodwood and it will be interesting to see him on the proving ground for the first time since his good season performance 12 months ago.

CIRCUS LION – 1.40 Musselburgh

Obligatory ran well in second at Catterick last week, but he shaped up as if a return to six furlongs would suit, so I prefer to side CIRCUS LION in the 1.40 first deployment in Musselburgh.

The gray son of Aclaim made a good start in two seasons as a juvenile last September, his second to Townsend Manor at Redcar when he last saw a race that has worked out well in the context of this assignment.

He looks fast enough to win a race at five furlongs and if one is too smart for Obligatory it could be Bryan Smart’s horse.

THE CAMDEN Colt – 4.45 Newmarket

THE CAMDEN VOL in the form of a future winner on his return to Newmarket and weighing just 2lb he could make a bold bid in the William Hill Extra Place Races Handicap at the Rowley Mile.

He went into the race as the most likely winner last time, with a run-in of 1.3 on Betfair, but Hugo Palmer’s Watcha Matey just kept rolling on the other side.

Still, it was a hugely encouraging run and if Sean Levey manages to dictate the pace at the front, he could be difficult to reel in.

COOLAGH PARK – 5.10 Cheltenham

Hands up, hunter chases are far from my specialty, but COOLAGH PARK could be a sporting bet against likely favorite Iskandar Pekos in the 5.10.

Trainer Alan Hill has a good record at this meeting over the years and this ex-Gordon Elliott horse has a good record in point-to-point for his latest stable.

Favorite in all six starts since his emphatic winning debut for Hill, he ran well in second to Kimble last time and was able to give Izzie Marshall a good spin around Cheltenham.

CAPERNOITY – 5.35 Newcastle

It might be worth taking a chance on Peter Niven’s CAPERNOITY if he is a big prize in the opening student handicap over 10 furlongs at Newcastle.

This horse weighs 4lb, but he ran well at this track last time, over a mile, not far beaten as he ran out of space on his stable debut after a break, and from pedigree he should really enjoy running a to take the trip a step further.

Ryan Sexton is a standout jockey booker, his record in apprentice racing at Newcastle includes nine excellent wins at 24 at 37.5%.
