Selection trials for BRICS Games, 10th Asian Wushu C’ship today

JAMMU, May 2: The Wushu Association of India will hold the final selection trials for the Indian team at Indoor Hall Bhagwati Nagar Jammu on May 3 and 4, ahead of the much-awaited BRICS Games and the 10th Asian Wushu Championship.
In 2024, Macau (China) will host the 10th Asian Wushu Championship from September 9 to 16, and Kazan (Russia) will host the BRICS Games from June 11 to 17. There will be trials for both the male and female teams of India.
Kuldeep Handoo, the Dronacharya Awardee and National Chief Coach of India, said, “The two-day selection trial in Jammu involves around 200 Wushu athletes from all affiliated units. The selection trial will see some top athletes, including world champions and Arjuna Award winners, in action.”
He added, “Current International Wushu Federation Athlete of the Year 2023, 19th Asian Games Silver Medalist and Arjun Awardee Roshibina Devi will be seen in action. This is the first time that the selection tests for the prestigious events will be held in the temple city of Jammu. Earlier, the Wushu Association of India had organized a national Wushu coaching camp in Gulmarg and Srinagar in 2011, 2013 and 2023 respectively.
“The J&K Sports Council recently acquired the latest Wushu equipment for both centres, making J&K a hub for the Wushu events. The deadline for registering by name for the BRICS games is May 15, 2024. The Open Selection Trial will be held before the 10th Asian Wushu Championship, in which approximately 45 to 50 athletes will be shortlisted for the National Wushu Coaching Camp , ​​the final selection test. for the championship will be held in the month of July ending or in the first week of August 2024 to finalize the Indian Wushu team for the championship in Macau.
The Wushu Association of India has finalized the selection committee, which is headed by Wushu Association of India President Jitender Singh, Suhel Ahmed (Member), Dronacharya Awardee Kuldeep Handoo and National Chief Coach of India (Member), international player and winner as Members and observer of Sports Authority of India. The Wushu Association of India has invited ITOs and NTOs for a smooth and successful conduct of the selection test.
