NRL 2024, Injuries, suspension, return dates, casualties section and important information for the 2024 NRL Telstra Premiership season

The Rabbitohs suffered a double blow in their loss to the Panthers at halfback on Thursday evening Dean Hawkins and fullback Yay Gray ruled out due to injuries.

After scoring an early try for South Sydney, Hawkins left the field in the 25th minute after injuring his quad on a kick-off, while Gray was believed to have suffered a syndesmosis injury.

“It’s not good. Jye looks like he has a syndesmosis and Dean has a quad strain, so not ideal,” interim coach Ben Hornby said after the game.

There were also concerns for prop Jai Arrow late in the match, when he felt discomfort in his second match back after a shoulder injury sustained in Round 1.

“Jai is doing fine. He took a few hits and we thought about taking him out of the match at the end of the match, but he said it was okay to stay on, so that’s usually a good sign for us,” Hornby added.

Injuries saw interim coach Ben Hornby make several changes midway through the match, with Damien Cook switching to wing-back in his 200th game, Jack Wighton coming into the half from the center and Peter Mamouzelos coming in at hooker.

Veteran prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has had to suspend celebrations of his 300th match against Sydney Roosters after being ruled out of Friday night’s trip to Brisbane to face the Broncos.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson said Waerea-Hargreaves had an “old man’s injury”.

β€œIt’s very small, but not good enough to play,” he said. “He would be celebrating his 300 games for the Roosters, which is our highest honour. We enjoy that and you get a golden cockerel for that, but it won’t be tomorrow night so we’ll have to keep it for another week.” “

Veteran winger Daniel Tupou also dropped out on Friday after missing last week’s ANZAC Day match due to a knee injury Victor Radley fell from the reserve list after also being sidelined in round 8 (hamstring).

The Panthers opted not to play Nathan Cleary against the Rabbitohs in Round 9, as he continues to return to full strength after a recent layoff with a hamstring injury.

The club said their star No. 7 has been rested as a precaution, with no suggestion there has been another setback with the injury he suffered in Round 3, which sidelined him for just over a month.

The 26-year-old returned to the field in Round 8 for the match against the Cowboys and played the full 80 minutes.

Meanwhile, Parramatta fullback Clint Gutherson has been ruled out of Origin contention after knee surgery.

The Eels confirmed that Gutherson had undergone minor surgery on his knee and would be unavailable for up to five weeks.

Gutherson played four Origins for NSW and was part of the team that defeated Queensland 24-10 in the third match of last year’s series.

The Dolphins will be without Kenny Bromwich (concussion) for their trip to Townsville in Round 9, but are boosted by the return of Felise Kaufusi (hamstring) and Connelly Lemuelu (knee), while captain Jesse Bromwich appears ready to play despite a calf problem that ended his game last week.

More good news for the club: prop Tom Flegler The shoulder injury he suffered in Round 5 is unlikely to require surgery as his return time remains undetermined.

The Storm will be without an in-form winger Xavier Coates (hamstring) for the game against the Titans, who will be without an enforcer themselves Moeaki Fotuaika due to a concussion.

Dragon center Moses Suli will also miss Round 9 as he is under the NRL concussion protocol, while the Raiders will reassess progress Pasami Saulos lower back injury after their Round 10 bye to see if he is fit to return for the Magic Round.

Despite all failing to complete last Sunday’s victory over the Dolphins, the Knights have named Jacob Saifiti (lower leg), Jed Cartwright (single) and Greg Marzhew (only) to face the Warriors.

Storm Prop Nelson Asofa-Solomona and Wests Tigers skipper Api Koroisau will also shake off hamstring and back problems respectively to take the field in Round 9.

Captain of the Raiders Elliott Whitehead (calf), Roosterwing Daniel Tupou (knee) and Warriors back rower Kurt Capewell (throat) head up the big injury returns for round 9.

Luciano Leilua (calf) and Jacob Preston (jaw) are a chance to also get back on the field after being included in the reserves of their respective clubs.
