South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem Co. has been selected as the preferred bidder for the delivery of 30 wheeled armored vehicles to the Peruvian Army.

If the deal materializes, it would mark Hyundai Rotem’s first export of wheeled armored vehicles and the first time a Korean armored fighting vehicle will appear in the Latin American market.

Hyundai Rotem said Thursday it has been chosen by Peruvian military authorities as the preferred negotiator for the supply of wheeled armored vehicles.

Under the potential contract, Hyundai Rotem is eligible to supply 30 units of its K808 White Tiger to the Peruvian Army. The $60 million deal was facilitated by Korean trading company STX.

Wheeled armored vehicles, characterized by individual wheels rather than continuous tracks, provide maneuverability comparable to standard vehicles.

Equipped with an 8-wheel drive, the K808 can reach speeds of up to 100 km/h on paved roads and approximately 25 km/h off-road.

It features run-flat tires that are able to continue functioning even after being hit by gunfire, and an automatic system for adjusting air pressure based on surface pressure.

The deal is expected to allow Hyundai Rotem to expand its operations in Latin America.
