Meryl Streep will receive an honorary Palme d’Or at the opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival on May 14, organizers announced on Thursday, May 2.

Streep, 74, is one of the most celebrated actors in Hollywood history, with a record 21 Oscar nominations and three wins.

Her career has spanned a range of modern classics, from dramas like ‘The Deer Hunter’, ‘Out of Africa’ and ‘Kramer vs Kramer’ to family favorites like ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ and ‘Mamma Mia!’.

Surprisingly, she has only been to Cannes once before – although she did win the Best Actress award that year – in 1989 for ‘A Cry in the Dark’.

“I am extremely honored by the news of this prestigious award. To win an award at Cannes, because the international community of artists has always represented the highest achievement in the art of filmmaking,” she said in a statement.

“To stand in the shadow of those who have been honored before is both humbling and exciting.”

Streep joins a host of Hollywood veterans appearing at this year’s festival on France’s Cote d’Azur, including “Star Wars” creator George Lucas, who will also receive a Lifetime Achievement Award at the closing ceremony.

“Having spanned nearly 50 years of cinema and embodied countless masterpieces, Meryl Streep is part of our collective imagination, our shared love of cinema,” festival organizers said in the statement.

Legendary Japanese animators Studio Ghibli will also receive an honorary Palme d’Or – the first time this prize has been awarded to a group rather than an individual. YOU
