War between Israel and Hamas: 2,000 arrested as protests rock US universities, Biden says order must prevail

So far, at least 2,000 people have been arrested in connection with protests on college campuses against the war between Israel and Hamas. According to the Associated Press, the arrests have been made on 35 campuses since a tent camp began at Columbia University on April 17. Meanwhile, a police officer involved in clearing protesters from a Columbia University building fired his gun in the hallway. However, no one was injured.

The demonstrators had taken over Hamilton Hall on April 30, increasing their presence on campus from a tent camp that had been there. Tensions have been rising on college campuses for days as administrators turn to police to forcibly clear demonstrators, leading to clashes that have attracted widespread attention.
