Law And Order’s Dixon had to make an impossible choice in the latest episode, and I would love a part 2

Spoilers for episode 11 of Law & authority Season 23, called “Castle In The Sky.”

Law & authority ‘Castle In The Sky’ began in the 2024 TV show with the murder of West, the very wealthy son of a man with many connections in New York City. So it came as a surprise when the case revolved around a man who worked in the victim’s building. A single father of a young deaf daughter, Ryan Marley seemed like the last person who would kill someone and then hide it. However, by the end of the episode, Ryan went to prison for the crime and the daughter Alex then went to a foster home Kate Dixon made an impossible choice.

The plot grew even bigger in the case when it was revealed that Ryan had killed West to defend himself and his daughter. While that would have been enough to open and close the case under other circumstances, the complication in “Castle in the Sky” was that Ryan and Alex were in the apartment that West owned. The father and daughter were about as likable as any of the characters Law & authority Season 23, where more than one character wishes they could bend the rules about squatters and let Ryan go home with Alex. The case was more personal than usual for Dixon, as her son was Alex’s teacher.

The case became even more personal for Dixon just as it looked like Ryan might get away with it, thanks to Alex’s testimony in open court. By chance, she saw Alex telling her son via ASL that she had lied on the witness stand, and it turned out that Ryan had actually shot an unarmed man. Once again, Dixon knew ASL was the key to a case, but it certainly seemed like she wished she hadn’t seen Alex confess to the lie.

Dixon even had a chat with Riley about the new information, and it was a conversation so serious that Riley actually called her “Kate” instead of Dixon. You know a situation is solemn when the police get away Law & authority use first names! Ultimately, Dixon made the choice to take the stand and testify what she knew, leading to a guilty verdict and Ryan potentially spending the rest of his life behind bars. Alex broke down when he learned she would lose her father, and it weighed on everyone that the young girl would have to go to a foster home.

All in all, for me this was not only a standout episode of season 23, but also a fantastic showcase of it Camryn Manheim as an actress. As Dixon, her job is usually more to be the boss and a guiding force on the team than to take things personally. In ‘Castle In The Sky’ we got to see her individual feelings on a case, while also meeting her son. She did her duty to the NYPD, but her testimony sealed the case and gave her a victory Price And Maroen didn’t make it a happy ending.

I know how Law & authority could a sequel to this episode work for a part 2? Honestly, I don’t know, because the case was pretty open and shut when Dixon learned the truth about the murder weapon. But by the end of the hour, I was seriously interested in Alex’s story, and I’d love to see Camryn Manheim make another appearance like she did in “Castle In The Sky.” While this is a procedural show that doesn’t often carry stories from one week to the next, I would be behind it 100% Law & authority revisiting Ryan and Alex’s story.

Given that Law & authority has been renewed for season 24, the show has time for many more stories. The show will reach the 500 episode milestone in the next episode Law and order: SVU reached that same milestone in season 23. There isn’t as much fanfare for it L&O as it was before SVU back in 2021, but the promo makes it clear that this is indeed a milestone:
