Danny Mendick forced his way back onto the White Sox roster with his monstrous run in Charlotte. Mendick earned back-to-back South Side Sox Knights Player of the Week awards with his 193 wRC+ in 67 plate appearances with them. Triple-A pitchers had a hard time striking him out, and if you blinked for a week, you might have missed a home run. The Knights have benefited greatly from having him in the lineup, and so far Mendick has done quite well in his return to the majors. Congratulations to our super utility man for his fantastic month!

April record 15-7

Barons Player of the Month

Mason Adams 3.68 ERA, 22 IP, 3 BB, 29 K
Jairo Iriarte 1.46 ERA, 24 2⁄3 IP, 12 BB, 28 K
Jake Eder 5.12 ERA, 19 ½ IP, 9 BB, 24 K
Ky Bush 1.27 ERA, 21 1⁄3 IP, 12 BB, 26 K

It’s been a fantastic month for the Barons, who have propelled themselves to the top of the Southern League standings. As a result, there was some stiff competition for Barons Player of the Month honors, but Drew Thorpe takes the honor. Thorpe was lights-out from start to finish, confusing hitters for 30 innings in April. Thorpe was one of the returning pieces from the Dylan Cease trade, as was fellow starter (and POTM runner-up) Jairo Iriarte. The early returns on both are extremely positive.

Brooks Baldwin, who was extremely difficult to retire, and Ky Bush, who was also on the Hilltop, also deserve an honorable mention. On most minor league teams they would both have been Player of the Month, but unfortunately they are on the same team as Thorpe.

Winston Salem Dash

April record 9-13

Dash player of the month

Erik Adler 0.00 ERA, 9 IP, 4 BB, 14 K

Loidel Chapelli .186/.250/.357, 1 hour, 4 RBI
Chris Lanzilli .222/.357/.378, 2 HR, 8 RBI
Samuel Zavala .207/.277/.337, 1 HR, 9 RBI, 4-for-5 stolen bases
Jacob Gonzalez .250/.357/.357, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 3-for-4 stolen bases
Wes Kath .242/.347/.484, 4 HR, 12 RBI
Shawn Goosenberg .225/.329/.408, 3 HR, 14 RBI

Noa Schultz 4.50 ERA, 16 IP, 5 BB, 27 K
Riley Gowens 3.98 ERA, 20 ½ IP, 8 BB, 23 K
Tanner McDougal 5.21 ERA, 19 IP, 8 BB, 24 K
José Ramirez 0.77 ERA, 11 2⁄3 IP, 4 BB, 10 K

The Dash didn’t get much offense, which wasn’t too surprising considering the number of top players on the roster. However, there were a few contributors on the hill who had a great April. Eric Adler was completely dominant out of the bullpen, delivering nine shutout innings and collecting five saves in five tries. During those nine innings, Adler struck out fourteen while allowing just three hits, so even making contact was a problem for opponents. Adler has already been promoted to Double-A Birmingham, so congratulations to him on a great month and promotion.

Reliever José Ramírez was also very difficult for the opponents to solve, so he deserves an honorable mention.

Kannapolis Cannonballers

April record 11-9

Cannon Ballers Player of the Month

Aldrin Batista 1.17 ERA, 15 ½ IP, 3 BB, 19 K

Luis Pineda .214/.276/.329, 1 hour, 6 RBI
Albertson Asigen .276/.389/.395, 2 HR, 12 RBI, 9-for-12 stolen bases
Caden Connor .274/.366/.405, 1 hour, 18 RBI
Rikuu Nishida .210/.366/.247, 0 HR, 6 RBI, 6-for-9 stolen bases
Ryan Galanie .356/.431/.533, 0 HR, 8 RBI

Seth Keener 1.53 ERA, 17 2⁄3 IP, 14 BB, 23 K
Luke Gordon 2.84 ERA, 19 IP, 9 BB, 28 K
Drew McDaniel 1.83 ERA, 19 2⁄3 IP, 10 BB, 22 K
Jake Peppers 2.89 ERA, 18 2⁄3 IP, 13 BB, 14 K

Aldrin Batista really made an impact during his time on the mound. Among starting pitchers in the White Sox organization, Batista led the way in ERA, narrowly ahead of Thorpe (1.20), Bush (1.27) and Iriarte (1.46). Batista is still 20 (although he turns 21 this week), but his numbers are excellent across the board. The three real outcomes were all very favorable, as he struck out 19, walked only three and allowed zero home runs. Overall, this month was a big step in the right direction for the young pitcher.
