A major fire in the two-story Bensonhurst building destroyed the home

A two-storey home in Bensonhurst is now completely destroyed after firefighters responded to a two-alarm blaze on Thursday afternoon.

According to the FDNY, the call for the fire came in at 314 Avenue P in Brooklyn, between West 2nd and 3rd streets, just after 2 p.m.

The frequently asked question from neighbors is how the fire started.

“No one knows what is going on and I am really scared,” says local resident Natalia.

Natalia has lived next door to us for less than a year and she says there have been strange activities since she moved in.

“There was police doing something just like any other night… there’s definitely something going on with this house,” Natalia said.

The cause of this fire seems to be a question for many residents of this neighborhood.

“I just don’t understand why the fire would start, because no one lives inside… Last I know, the electricity has already been cut off. No one is cooking inside, no electricity, I don’t know why this happened,” Yan said, born in Bensonhurst.

Firefighters went upstairs to the house next door and broke the windows to put out the flames. The Buildings Department was also present and an eviction notice was placed on the front door of the building. Although the house was destroyed and no one was injured, people in the neighborhood say they do not feel safe.

“My son, he is nine. He is so afraid to stay at home, he is crying, he told me not to go anywhere and we are all panicking,” said Natalia.

FDNY is still investigating the cause of the fire.
