J&K Sports Council is organizing two camps for the Indian U-17 football team

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) SRINAGAR- J&K Sports Council highlighted that J&K has become the preferred location for training camps of Indian national youth football teams and on Thursday announced that it will organize two training camps for the India Under-17 Team this year.

The team will be led by head coach Ishfaq Ahmed and will participate in the SAFF U-17 Championship, followed by the AFC U-17 Championship Qualifiers in September and October respectively.

While thanking the J&K Sports Council and the J&K Administration, a communiqué from the All-India Football Federation expressed its gratitude for hosting and providing the best possible facilities to the India U-16 National Team training camp in Srinagar last year in August.

The team had trained under the tutelage of J&K’s famous footballer, Ishfaq Ahmad, who was nominated as the team’s head coach for the SAFF U-16 Championship held in Thimphu, Bhutan in September 2023, where India U- 16 team won the title.

“The initiatives and assistance received for the development of Indian football and the impact of national camps in J&K as acclimatization had helped the team immensely and earned applause from all quarters,” JKSC said in a statement.

“The AIFF has requested from the first week of June this year for the arrangement of accommodation as well as boarding facilities, and transportation for a contingent of 42 members comprising 35 players and seven officials.

“To enable the teams to train for the international events, Ishfaq Ahmed has been appointed as the Head Coach of the team,” it added.

J&K has previously hosted the Santosh Trophy, Federation Cup and Hero I-League competitions, but training camps in Srinagar have training and acclimatization factors and are fast becoming the preferred venue for national football teams.

Head coach of the twin camps Ishfaq Ahmed said, “Organizing camps in Srinagar is a unique opportunity to organize National Camps one after another, making it a routine affair in the region, which will not only boost local footballers but at the same time the new energy in the young people who are eager to take up the cause.”
