Meryl Streep, the esteemed veteran of the silver screen, will be honored with the prestigious Palme d’Or at the opening ceremony of the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 14, as announced by festival organizers. She will also be guest of honor at the ceremony and will grace the stage of the Grand Theater Lumiere. Meryl Streep’s award marks the start of the festival, with the prize list presented by jury chair Greta Gerwig.

According to the Hindustan Times report, Meryl, reacting to the news, expressed his deep gratitude and said, “I am immeasurably honored by the news of this prestigious award.” She further noted: “Winning an award at Cannes, for the international community of artists, has always represented the highest achievement in the art of filmmaking. To stand in the shadow of those who have been honored before is both humbling as exciting. I’m really looking forward to coming to France in May to thank everyone personally.”
