Memes mock Rahul Gandhi as he abandons Amethi; #FattuPappu trends on X

New Delhi: As the Gandhi family left its bastion of Amethi after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi picked up Rae Bareli to contest the Lok Sabha elections, social media was flooded with memes on Friday.

#FattuPappu, Darpok, Daro Mat and Bhag Jao ​​started topping the X-list soon after the formal announcement by the grand old party.

During his Bharat Jodo and Nyay Yatra, Daro Mat had become Rahul’s slogan to incite his party workers to put up a courageous fight. After abandoning Amethi, X-handles related to BJP mocked the Congress scion with the same slogan but in a negative manner.

Amethi was transferred to Rahul in 2004 from his mother Sonia Gandhi, who he lost to BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani by over 50,000 votes in the 2019 general elections.

NewsDrum, in its commentary on April 29, predicted that Rahul will not contest against Amethi and that he could instead pick up Rae Bareli, who was abandoned by her mother Sonia Gandhi earlier this year.

Instead, Rahul has fielded his close aide Kishori Lal Sharma from Amethi, who is seen as a dummy candidate against Irani.
