Golf Course Road: New U-turn on Golf Course Road to avoid the snarl at Genpact Chk | to soften Gurgaon news

Gurgaon: GMDA will go ahead with the construction of a new U-turn on Golf Course Road – this one to help decongest Genpact Chowk by giving commuters and residents easier access to Sector 54. Officials said on Thursday that the U-turn is planned between metro pillars 184 and 185 near Saraswati Kunj. The U-turn, they said, will reduce traffic flow from Ghata junction by almost 5 km as commuters will not have to drive up to Genpact Chowk to reach Sector 54. Some motorists would also drive on the wrong side to avoid taking the longer route. , which endangers road safety. Construction of a U-turn has long been a demand from residents living in societies along Golf Course Road. These include Suncity Township, La Lagune, Suncity Heights, Verandas and Orchid Garden, where more than 4,500 families live. In addition to associations, there are several commercial establishments and offices along the route. A senior GMDA official said the authority has asked DLF, which maintains Golf Course Road, to construct the U-turn. “We had received representation from residents and, on the recommendation of the traffic police, the authority has given in-principle approval for the construction of a U-turn before Genpact Chowk. We asked DLF to realize the U-turn after removing the fencing from the central reservation. Jersey barriers will be provided by the traffic police for this,” the official said. A DLF official said the company will conduct a feasibility study. “We have asked an agency to prepare a feasibility report in which it will examine the traffic analysis, existing turning movements, site assessment, road width, curvature and visibility. Subsequently, the final design will be prepared in consultation with the authority,” the official said. Every weekday during rush hour, 16 lanes of Golf Course Road around Genpact Chowk get clogged as traffic from all directions converge at the intersection. The intersection, one of the busiest in the city, is used by thousands of commuters traveling to Faridabad, Southern Peripheral Road, Sectors 43-45, Sushant Lok and DLF Cyber City. The traffic police said they had recommended the construction of the U-turn to ease traffic at the roundabout. “We have sent our recommendation to GMDA to address the traffic issues faced by commuters on Golf Course Road. The U-turn will not only reduce travel time but also improve traffic flow on the road, especially near Genpact Chowk,” said DCP (traffic) Virender Vij. On Thursday, residents said they were relieved their demand was taken into account. “At least 10,000 people live in Sector 54 and nearby areas. We have been raising this issue with GMDA and traffic police for the past four years. Ultimately, the authorities decided to solve the problem. It will be a huge relief to the residents,” said Kusum Sharma, chairman of United RWA Forum.
