Elon Musk restores neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes’ X account

Despite an unprecedented rise in incidents of anti-Semitism across the country, Elon Musk said Thursday he is reinstating the X account of Nazi-sympathizing broadcaster Nick Fuentes.

“He will be restoredprovided he doesn’t break the law,” Musk said in response to pressure to bring back the bigoted expert who was banned in 2021, briefly reinstated in 2023 and then banned again.

Musk said he thinks it’s better to be “anti-anything open” than to deny Fuentes a platform for hate speech. He is now counting on the X-community to offset Fuentes’ rhetoric with fact-checks and counter-narratives.

Among the 25-year-old right-wing propagandist’s multitude of derogatory comments are: his suggestion the Holocaust may be exaggerated.

Fuentes – an avid MAGA supporter – rose to national prominence after he and rapper Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, were hosted by Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago in November 2020.

Despite also making pejorative comments about black people, Fuentes joined Ye’s non-serious presidential campaign after anti-Semitic rapper ‘Black Skinhead’ vowed to use ‘death con 3 on Jewish people’.

The Anti-Defamation League calls Fuentes “a white supremacist leader, organizer and podcaster who is trying to forge a white nationalist alternative to the mainstream Republican Party.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center, meanwhile, labels Fuentes “an outspoken admirer of fascists.”

Musk acknowledged that reinstating Fuentes’ account will likely cause further financial damage to the cash-bleeding company he bought under the name Twitter on Oct. 22 and renamed X about eight months later.

“This will probably cause us to lose a lot of advertisers and that makes me sad, but a principle is a principle,” Musk said.

The 53-year-old entrepreneur, who has personally endorsed white supremacist ideology on his platform, calls himself a “absolute freedom of expression.”

Musk admitted during a visit to a Nazi death camp in January that he was “naive” about anti-Semitism, but insists he does not condone it.
