X’s block button is being adjusted, blocked content is still visible: is blocking the only thing that’s going away? : Technology: Technical times

A new change on

This change would allow blocked users to see the replies sent through the platform by the person who blocked them.

Elon Musk is known to not be a big fan of the block feature, and it was suggested that it would be removed from the platform at some point.

X’s Engineering account posted about a new change on the platform that customizes the Block feature. It says that instead of being completely locked out by the person who blocked them, they can get a chance to see the content.

However, the content that blocked accounts can only see are the direct replies to their messages from the person who blocked them.

For example, if an account blocked you, the previous function would delete all content from it and the blocked user would no longer be able to see what they said, despite replying directly.

In this new direction, blocked users would still be able to see the replies and track the flow of the conversation, giving them the chance to take appropriate action such as reporting the other party.

Will the block function be gone from X?

As this change to the Block feature is rolled out, one more question remains to be answered: will it still be available in the future, especially since Elon Musk is known to be against blocking?

It remains unknown what X has in store for users, but the team’s wording suggests that the blocking feature will see more changes soon.

X and Elon Musk’s changes

More than a year has passed since Elon Musk successfully took over Twitter, now known as X, and the platform has undergone tremendous changes.

Musk made it clear that he owns the platform and that it will move away from the old practices of the former social media created by Jack Dorsey. His first order of business was to change the way the blue verification check mark works.

One of the most recent features on X is the addition of groups to the social media platform. This clearly separates ‘safe for work’ (SFW) and ‘not safe for work’ (NSFW) content on

While this doesn’t necessarily mean that X will remove the NSFW or explicit content, it will do so behind closed doors for groups with shared interests.

Rather than being the well-known short-form social media,

However, these aren’t the only aspects of the old Twitter that are changing. The Block button will also change, giving blocked users the chance to see the replies addressed to them and take appropriate action.
